A 150 BILLION TENGE PHOSPHATE PROCESSING PLANT IS BEING BUILT IN TURKESTAN REGION

The Governor of Turkestan Region Nurlakhan Kusherov met with Zhang Zhangxin, Vice President of Sinopec. During the meeting, they discussed the current status and further plans for the implementation of a modern plant for the deep processing of phosphate ore in the Sozak District.

The investment project valued at 150 billion tenge is being implemented by Sozak Phosphate LLP. The project provides for the creation of a fully integrated production complex covering the extraction, beneficiation and deep processing of phosphate ore.

Once the plant reaches full capacity, it is expected to process 2 million tonnes of phosphate ore annually and produce 1.6 million tonnes of sulfuric acid, as well as 600,000 tonnes each of phosphoric acid, diammonium phosphate (DAP), and monoammonium phosphate (MAP), along with 350,000 tonnes of synthetic ammonia. The products will be supplied not only to the domestic market but also exported to China, India and neighboring countries.

The project is expected to create approximately 1,000 new jobs. Over the next 10 years, tax revenues to the budget are projected to amount to around 43.3 billion tenge.

An EPC contract for the technological component of the project has been signed with Sinopec Nanjing Engineering Co., Ltd. Specialists are currently conducting additional studies of the production site and the deposit, as well as refining the quality and technological characteristics of the raw materials.

Completion of the project's feasibility study is scheduled for October 2026. This will be followed by the design phase construction of engineering infrastructure, construction of a railway line, provision of water and electricity supplies, equipment procurement and construction of the plant.

As part of the project, 300 young specialists are planned to be sent abroad for training. The plant is scheduled to be commissioned in 2028.

The project is aimed at the deep processing of phosphate ore directly at the extraction site, the development of mineral fertilizer and chemical production, and the enhancement of the industrial potential of Turkestan Region. It is expected to become a major investment initiative contributing to the development of the chemical industry and the creation of new high-value-added production chains.
