WATER-SAVING TECHNOLOGIES IMPLEMENTED ON 50,000 HECTARES IN TURKISTAN REGION, WITH THREE NEW PRODUCTION FACILITIES OPENED

This announcement was made by the Akim of Turkistan Region, Darkhan Satybaldy, during a briefing on the socio-economic development of the region held at the Central Communications Service.

– The defining feature of our region is that 80% of its population resides in rural areas. Therefore, agriculture is a key sector for us. We are actively working on diversifying agricultural production, implementing water-saving technologies, and promoting advanced processing of livestock and crop products. As you know, our country faces an annual shortage of irrigation water. Moreover, 70% of the water required for Turkestan Region comes from neighboring countries. In this context, we are prioritizing the introduction of modern water-saving technologies and the cultivation of new crops and varieties. Our plan is to implement water-saving technologies on 216,300 hectares, increasing the share of irrigated land to 40%. This year alone, these technologies have been applied to 50,000 hectares. To enhance the accessibility of water-saving technologies, we have opened three production facilities with a total investment of 11.7 billion tenge, – stated Darkhan Satybaldy.

The agricultural output of Turkestan Region has reached 958 billion tenge, reflecting a growth of 105.8%. The region holds a leading position in Kazakhstan in terms of agricultural production. To further ensure the domestic market is supplied with local products, 105 projects worth a total of 507 billion tenge are planned for implementation between 2024 and 2027. These projects are expected to create over 8,000 jobs (8,346). Several major projects are already fully operational in the region. These include a 7 billion tenge factory by BNK Group LTD capable of producing 1,000 sprinkler irrigation systems annually, a 4.1 billion tenge project for drip irrigation on 14,000 hectares, and a 650 million tenge facility by the state enterprise Turan Su, which manufactures drip irrigation systems for 9,000 hectares annually. Moreover, next year, a project with a foreign investor worth 2 billion tenge is planned. It will enable the implementation of drip irrigation technologies on 40,000 hectares.
